MPX5135316: The hall of one of Newcastle's oldest banks faces demolition. Barclays Bank have applied for permission to knock down their Grey Street banking hall and fill the space with offices. The facade of the building is to be left unchanged in Barclays latest plans. It was built by John Dobson in 1836. MPX5134530: Reg Calvert Murder Case 1966. Major Oliver Smedley was charged with the murder of 'pop pirate' chief Reg Calvert. It was alleged that Mr Calvert was shot and killed at Mr Smedley's home in Wendens Ambo near Saffron Walden (21st June). Reg Calvert was head of rival pirate radio station Radio City & manager of The Fortunes pop group. He was later acquitted of murder on the grounds of self defence.
