Another big signing was Chilean striker George Robledo, who arrived at Gallowgate along with his brother Ted as Newcastle began to challenge for the First Division title. George became a feared striker and immensely popular on Tyneside, scoring almost 100 goals before returning to South America in 1953. Police and St John's ambulance worlers tend to dazed and injured spectators who were pushed onto the pitch from the Kop as fans pressed forward for a better view of the action in the low hanging fog.
