Jan. 01, 1955 - Royal Navy Helicopers on Mercy Missions... Two Royal Navy Helicopters and R.A.F Shackleton flew mercy missions all day yesterday to snowboard Scottish villages. The Helicopters were based at Wick and were earmarked for medical and maternity cases in various areas which were cut off by the omer mounting snow drifts. One of the helicopters picked up Mrs.Chrissie Bannerman from Dunreay-and an hour afterwards she gave birth to 9 lb son.

Vampire Sequence under whioh pilots qualify for their wing. of Jet aircraft is now under fall operation. Pupils first enter No. 6. Flying Training School at Terrlill, Shropshire for a 30 weeks oourse where they are taught to fly Provost Piston engine trainer. The Provost is Characteristically like the Vampire Jet, On passing out at Torah = they go to No. 5.0.1.s. at oakington, Cams., for a further 50 weeks course on the Vampire T. 11 side-by-aide trainer TJot).. At tin conclusion of this co, rse they reoeive their wings. This non scheme reduces training to two types of airoraft and reduces wastage both in time - soot on prodestion of Jet pilots.. They will spend part of their stay in the homes of thier Scout hosts and part of it camps with their hosts' Troops in various parts of the country. The German boys, whose ages range from 14 to 17, arrived at Victoria, and at Imperial Scout Headquarters they were met by their hosts (except Kentish who met them at Dover), and taken to their homes or to Scout camps
