Jacques Joseph Tissot, better known as James Tissot, was a prominent French painter, illustrator and caricaturist. He chose to pursue a career in art at a young age and incorporated aspects of realism, early Impressionism and academics. He was known to be a fashionable painter, also a friend and mentor to Degas.
