Ewan was born in 1960 in Scotland. His happiest memories are of times spent travelling with his family and friends experiencing the great wild outdoors and mythology of his native country. Always with a creative inclination he studied photography at Napier University Edinburgh going on to The Royal College of Art gaining a Masters of Art in Photography in the late 1980s. With a deep love of travel and archaeology he was deeply influenced by ancient sites in Greece and Italy.
His degree show met with critical acclaim and he went on to exhibit in various galleries in London and abroad, his work is in a variety of private collections and most notably The Sainsbury’s collection, The Saatchi Collection , The National Museum of Film and Photography and Past Rays Gallery ,Yokohama ,Japan.
Ewan has worked on a variety of commissions from advertising ,illustrating book jackets, album and cd covers and editorials. My work is loosely based around textural surfaces and layers mixing figures and portraits , manipulating these together in the darkroom.
“By working through these surfaces and references fusing Mediterranean mythology with Celtic mysticism Fraser has built a body of work that appeals across cultures where his images have made an impact especially in Japan , the Pacific Rim and Australia.”
Ewan now lives and works in his beloved Scotland.
