Alex Colville P.C.,C.C.,ONS (1920-2013) was a celebrated Canadian artist known for his distinctive style and exploration of the human condition. Born in Toronto, Ontario, he studied fine art at Mount Allison University before serving as a war artist during World War II. After teaching at Mount Allison from 1946 until 1963, he devoted himself entirely to his art, moving to Wolfville Nova Scotia in 1973. Colville's meticulously crafted, realistic compositions often depicted everyday scenes infused with mystery and tension. His work gained international acclaim, with iconic pieces such as "Horse and Train" and "To Prince Edward Island" becoming symbols of Canadian art. Colville's legacy continues to inspire artists and art enthusiasts worldwide, solidifying his place as one of Canada's most revered artists.
