Biography
Honor Charlotte Appleton (1879-1951) was a British artist known for her watercolor paintings of landscapes and botanical subjects. Born in London, she studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and later at the Royal College of Art. She exhibited her work at the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society, and was a member of the Society of Women Artists. Appleton's paintings often depicted the countryside and gardens of England, with a focus on the natural beauty of the landscape. She was particularly interested in capturing the changing seasons and the effects of light and shadow on the environment. Her work was praised for its delicate and sensitive use of color, and for its ability to convey a sense of tranquility and harmony. In addition to her painting, Appleton was also a writer and illustrator, and published several books on gardening and natural history. She was a member of the Royal Horticultural Society and the Alpine Garden Society, and was awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour for her contributions to horticulture.
